Joseph Impicciche, JD, MHA, serves as President and Chief Executive Officer for Ascension, leading the Ascension Leadership Team to advance the health system’s Mission of providing compassionate, personalized care to all, especially those most in need. He previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer and earlier as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, providing legal counsel to the organization, Board of Directors and executive management. He coordinated legal services for major projects and transactions, led system-to-system affiliation initiatives, assisted with business development activities, and managed outside legal relationships on behalf of Ascension.
Prior to joining Ascension, Mr. Impicciche was a partner in a private law firm with a major concentration in public finance, business and tax law for nonprofit organizations. He also served as General Counsel for St. Vincent Health in Indianapolis, part of Ascension Indiana.
Because of his expertise, he has made presentations on tax- and business-related subjects to numerous organizations. He is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Missouri State Bar Association. He has served on the Board of numerous organizations, and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Health Association of the United States. He was recently recognized among the Legal 500 Corporate Counsel 100.
Mr. Impicciche earned a Juris Doctorate from Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis, and a Master of Healthcare Administration from Indiana University. He received a bachelor’s degree from Wabash College, Crawfordsville, Indiana, where he was a Lilly Scholar. He was an adjunct professor of commercial law at Indiana University School of Business for 15 years, and an adjunct professor at Indiana University Law School from 1999-2003. Since moving to St. Louis, he also has taught at Saint Louis University School of Law.
