More transparency in drug pricing, less direct-to-consumer marketing, more comparative effectiveness research and faster FDA approval for generics.
This is what Roy Guharoy, PharmD, Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer for The Resource Group at Ascension called for last week during an Association of Health Care Journalists discussion on the controversy of drug pricing. The Chicago chapter of the organization hosted the panel discussion at Columbia College on Feb. 23.
Dr. Guharoy said the increasing price of medications often creates hardships for care providers, such as Ascension, and for the individuals they serve. "It is very frustrating, especially as we try to support new technologies and facilities, and to take better care and more efficient care of our patients," he said.
