Ascension President and Chief Executive Officer Anthony R. Tersigni, EdD, FACHE, urges Congress to pass the VA Mission Act in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal.
The act “provides critical funding for care, new health-care capacity, and new tools to improve employee performance across the Department of Veterans Affairs system,” Tony says in his column. “Without this legislation, funding for the popular Veterans Choice Program would run out, making it harder for millions of veterans to receive the care they need.
“[President] Trump has set a deadline of Memorial Day for Congress to pass this bill, which he promises to sign as soon as it reaches his desk. Our veterans should not wait any longer for world-class health care.”
Tony says that in addition to funding the Veterans Choice Program, the bill would transform it into a new Veterans Community Care Program, giving veterans access to tools and information to compare care provided at the VA and in the private sector, and bring other benefits to veterans including creating value-based payment models for private healthcare providers.
