Ascension associates help co-workers rebuild from hurricane destruction

Several Florida news outlets recently shared efforts by teams at Ascension Sacred Heart Bay to help fellow associates following the destruction of Hurricane Michael.

Ascension Sacred Heart Bay created “Bay Helping Bay,” which connects associates to resources needed to recover. Associates who helped rebuild homes said helping each other is what the hospital is all about.

“There is finally light at the end of the tunnel. We were pretty sure we were going to be in the camper another couple of years before we settled and finally rebuilt,” nurse Tina Alliston told mypanhandle.com.

“It’s so important to take care of those who take care of others,” Heath Evans, President, Ascension Sacred Heart Bay, told WJHG. “We’re reaching out to all of them and saying, ‘How can we as your partner and the family you work with every day, how can we help you,’ and we’ve helped about five homes already.”

“This is a moving example of our Mission in action beyond the walls of our facilities,” said Tom VanOsdol, Senior Vice President, Ascension, and Ministry Market Executive, Ascension Florida. “We not only care for our patients – we care for each other, and we are here to support the individuals and families of this great community in every way possible, for life!”
