St. Clare's Hospital

Ascension and Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS), an integrated health system with one of the largest private medical group practices in Wisconsin, have signed a definitive agreement for Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston, Wisconsin, to become a part of MCHS. The transaction also includes the transfer of Ascension Wisconsin’s 50 percent interest in The Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Weston (DTC) and Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls, Wisconsin.

This transaction does not include the Foundation of St. Clare’s Hospital or Ascension Wisconsin Spirit Medical Transport and any related services. It also does not include Ascension Medical Group clinics at Westwood, Schofield and Mosinee in Wisconsin.

“We came to this agreement with the best interests of our patients, communities and associates in mind in the context of the rapidly evolving healthcare landscape in Wisconsin and nationally. Ascension and MCHS are working diligently on a smooth transition to ensure that Ascension St. Clare’s continues to provide the compassionate care that has been its hallmark since the hospital opened 14 years ago,” said Bernie Sherry, Senior Vice President, Ascension, and Ministry Market Executive, Ascension Wisconsin. “Ascension will continue to deliver faith-based, personalized care to the communities we serve through our integrated system in Central and Northern Wisconsin.”

According to Dr. Susan Turney, MCHS CEO, Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital becoming a part of Marshfield Clinic Health System is a defining moment for the future of healthcare for people in Weston and the Wausau area.

“The agreement signals our organization’s continued commitment to health care in rural Wisconsin and to serving patients on their terms,” said Turney. “By combining our exceptional group of providers with our own hospitals, health plan and research institute, we are able to provide truly comprehensive and cutting-edge care to our patients. We are excited to bring this model of care to the Wausau/Weston area, which will be fully realized with the acquisition of St. Clare’s Hospital.”

Certain regulatory and canonical approvals and other requirements are needed to finalize the sale. A specific date to finalize the sale transaction is dependent on all approvals and requirements being satisfied.
