Robert Hoban has accepted the position of President of St. John Hospital & Medical Center in Detroit, part of St. John Providence and Ascension Michigan. He has been acting as interim president since June. The effective date of the appointment was Nov. 22, 2015.
"Although our search committee conducted a comprehensive national search and vetted numerous candidates, we found that our best choice was already with us," said Jean Meyer, President and CEO, St. John Providence. "Bob is known as a knowledgeable, inclusive and highly respected leader by physicians, associates, donors and the community."
Bob has contributed much to St. John Providence since he first joined the health system 2001 as Chief Strategy Officer. During his tenure he has served in other key executive roles as well, providing leadership as president of the care continuum and senior vice president of strategy and the centers of excellence. Bob is involved in community and professional activities, often serves as a spokesman for St. John Providence on healthcare trends and changes, and can be relied on to bring system and strategic insights to the executive decision-making process.
Prior to joining St. John Providence, he spent 12 years with VHA Michigan, a regional network of non-profit health system members and affiliates, where he had the opportunity to interact with most of the 48 affiliated institutions throughout the state. This includes institutions both urban and rural, ranging from multi-hospital systems to small rural hospitals with fewer than 50 beds. (VHA Michigan is part of VHA, Inc.; neither is part of the U.S. Veterans Health Administration.)
Bob received his bachelor's degree in management from Michigan State University and his master's degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan. He is a Certified Public Accountant, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and a member of the Society for Healthcare Planning and Marketing.
