Ascension Living, one of the largest non-profit and faith-based providers of senior services in the nation, has signed a letter of intent to purchase Shorelight Memory Care along with physical space for a future skilled nursing community. Shorelight Memory Care and the skilled nursing space are owned by Siena on the Lake, a Racine, Wisconsin, nonprofit corporation. As part of this transaction, the associates, residents, and skilled care operation of Ascension Living’s Lakeshore Manor in Racine would move to the currently vacant skilled nursing space on the Siena campus.

“Bringing Shorelight Memory Care and Health Center into our ministry is an exciting continuation of our shared commitment and dedication to serving seniors,” said Gayle Trupiano, Ascension Living President and Chief Executive Officer. “The newly constructed space on the Siena campus will foster an environment of comfort and healing for our residents, and is a space where our associates can better care for those who have entrusted themselves in our care.”

“Our leadership team applies a rigorous review process when considering a potential partner,” said Sr. Maryann McMahon, President of the Racine Dominicans and Siena on the Lake, Inc. “Our organizations are guided by a shared faith and the promise to provide personalized, compassionate care to all. We are confident that Ascension Living will maintain the high degree of service and quality that Shorelight and Siena on the Lake has provided to our residents.”

This transaction would connect Southeast Wisconsin residents to integrated systems of care within Ascension Wisconsin. Terms of the deal are confidential and there will be no additional information released until a definitive agreement has been reached.

ABOUT THE RACINE DOMINICANS

The Racine Dominicans have a 155 year history of serving Racine and beyond. Mother Benedicta Bauer, the foundress of the Racine Dominicans, came from Germany to the United States specifically to meet the needs of the German immigrants and founded a community committed to teaching their children. Education remained the primary focus of the community from 1862 until the 1960s when the Second Vatican Council challenged women religious to meet the needs of the current time. Thus the Racine Dominicans became involved in areas other than teaching such as: domestic violence, homelessness, needs of the lonely and abandoned, teaching English as a second language, and the need for a place of reflection and deepening one’s spirituality. The mission of the Racine Dominicans is “Through communal and contemplative presence rooted in God’s transformational Word, we are committed to truth and compelled to justice.” As the Sisters continued to be aware of the signs of the times, another need surfaced, that of memory care for those afflicted with dementia of various types and causes. Thus, Shorelight Memory Care was born.

Shorelight Memory Care, one facet of Siena on the Lake, has a mission which states: “Siena on the Lake’s mission is to provide a continuing choice community focused on person-centered care. We support with passion your dignity, choices, and life enrichment.” Shorelight’s Philosophy of Fullness of Life is to seek the best possible quality of life with a holistic, person centered approach to mind, body, and spiritual health care.
