Like so many nurses across Ascension, Jennifer Price, RN, Nurse Navigator at Columbia St. Mary's Polly and Bill Van Dyke Cancer Center Milwaukee, part of Ascension Wisconsin, considers nursing more than a job.
"When you think about the opportunity — the privilege — that you have to impact somebody's life through a hard time, it's hard not to feel that," Jennifer says in an emotional video about the role of nurse navigators. "This is a life-changing event, and you get to be part of it. So it's a huge, huge responsibility."
In the video, two breast cancer survivors share their appreciation for all that Jennifer and the cancer care team did for them.
"After my surgery, they're the ones who took care of my bandages. They're the ones that changed them and showed me how to. They're the ones that sit down and explain everything throughout my journey," says Eva McDaniel, breast cancer survivor.
"She didn't not only know my diagnosis. She knew me," says Joyce Swietlik, breast cancer survivor. "I truly believe and I am truly thankful that Jen heard that calling in her life and answered it. She is exactly what I needed when I needed it."
