Associates at Ascension's Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, New York, got imaginative this year creating elaborate gift baskets to benefit local community organizations.
For the last 15 years, hospital departments have created themed baskets for an annual raffle. Forty-six were designed this year, including A Grilling Good Time basket containing all the makings of a fun outdoor cookout – grill included. Another basket, donated by Women's and Children's Services, used a car seat as the basket. A Handyman basket had a variety of essential tools in a full-size tool chest, and a Dog Lover's basket consisted of a dog crate filled with necessities for a pampered pooch. Other themes included Instant Fortune, Date Night, Gardening, Tools, iPad, Apple Watch, and many more.
The raffle raised more than $25,000 over a nine-day period. Among the organizations selected by associates through a survey process to receive funds were the Geller Oncology Fund, which provides assistance to Lourdes oncology patients; Mercy House of the Southern Tier, a care shelter that provides a home and a supportive family to people with terminal illnesses who can no longer remain at home; RISE, which helps victims of domestic violence; Danielle House, which offers temporary accommodations for patients' loved ones and for outpatients seeking respite during a medical crisis; the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier; and CHOW -Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse, a food pantry.
