Tersigni No. 3 on Most Influential List

Ascension President and Chief Executive Officer Anthony R. Tersigni, EdD, FACHE, is ranked No. 3 on this year's list of Modern Healthcare's 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare.

The annual 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare list honors individuals in healthcare who are deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential individuals in the industry, in terms of leadership and impact. This year's first two positions on the list are held by President Barack Obama and Bernard Tyson, the Chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente.

Dr. Tersigni has appeared on Modern Healthcare's list each year since 2005. Last year he was ranked No. 4 on the list.

Modern Healthcare noted that Dr. Tersigni "measures decisions and results against a simple premise: are they aligned with the system's mission of caring for the poorest and most-vulnerable people" in the communities where Ascension serves.

"Ascension's Mission is at the heart of all we do," Dr. Tersigni said. "While this recognition is an honor, it speaks to the compassion and dedication of all of our caregivers and associates across our One Integrated Ministry who are helping foster our connected community of healing."

Dr. Tersigni expressed gratitude to all of Ascension's leaders, associates, aligned providers, national and local board members, partners and volunteers, as well as to members of Ascension's historic sponsors, for the ways in which they help foster Ascension's unified ministry of caring.

"This is a significant time for Ascension," Dr. Tersigni said. "Working together, we are making great strides as a national leader in clinical quality and safety, accelerating our progress toward our goal of delivering care that improves the health of individuals and communities. Our Vision is nothing less than the transformation of healthcare."

The publication acknowledged Ascension's leadership as the first American hospital system to waive deductibles for all patients with incomes of less than 250 percent of the federal poverty level, as well as the organization's active participation in the federal Veterans Choice Program that provides care to military veterans. Modern Healthcare also recognized Ascension's efforts "to expand the system's reach abroad with the announcement this month that it will form Ascension Holdings International, a division that will work collaboratively with other investors and provider partners."
