Nick Ragone, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Ascension, was recently featured on "Brandchannel," where he was asked five questions about Ascension's efforts to develop and grow both its brand and its corporate citizenship platform.
Nick explained that although some people may be uncertain about using a faith-based health system, it actually is an advantage to the communities Ascension serves.
"I think people come to know Ascension in their community as a provider of high-quality, personalized care – and that what sets us apart is our commitment to our communities – to serve where and how we are needed," Nick said.
He stressed that part of the Ascension Mission is to care for those struggling with poverty.
"Each year we provide to our communities nearly 2 billion dollars – 2 billion dollars! – worth of care and services for people living in poverty and those most vulnerable," Nick said.
One example of how Ascension is serving those in need is with the Ascension Medical Missions at Home, free community health events where uninsured or low-income families can receive screenings, medical services, dental care, etc. In addition to helping those in need, it also helps associates, he noted.
"It's something that really serves our communities well and energizes our caregivers," Nick said. "Even those of our associates – our employees – who aren't direct caregivers get involved and provide care, whether that be washing the feet of people who are homeless or helping individuals sign up for health insurance and receive what we call a 'medical home.' It's truly a wonderful initiative."
